Women in Mathematics Presents...

Dr. Sumati Surya, Professor of Theoretical Physics at the Raman Research Institute.

Talk Title: The Causal Structure of a Physicist

Abstract:
My trajectory as a physicist started in high school, when I learnt  that  mathematics could be used to describe the physical world. The most fascinating was optics, where trigonometry was used to show how light behaved in the world around us. Later in high school, I was introduced to Einstein's theory of Special Relativity where  once again, light is intertwined with geometry. This twin fascination for light and geometry has never left me and is very much a part of my current research.

In today's  talk we will journey into our world of light cones and causality, and begin an exploration of the underlying geometry of our universe.

Everyone is welcome!

NOTE: Date has changed to November 8th.
