This conference embodies the work of  Dr. Angela Davis': Freedom is a Constant Struggle Ferguson, Palestine, and the Foundations of a Movement. Colonialism has set a precedent of individualism and thrives off of the control of borders. These are not just geopolitical borders, but the borders that govern our lives; they range from sexuality to education to collective action. By virtue of the existence of these borders, our holistic being is labelled as trespassers. These borders forcibly divide our holistic being into neatly labelled categories. We are then labelled as trespassers in the different parts of our own identity. This teaches us that our identities are tied to these socially constructed, heretic, false borders:   \\n\\nOur reality is that those same identities are tied to our ancestry. But our ancestors did not have borders, they were not confined to individual identities. Their beings were free. As the descendants of those who were denied freedom, our very being is resistance. We are living proof of the resiliency of our ancestors. \\n\\nThe labels we are forced to wear, the borders we must abide by; colonialism has thrived through the destruction of communities, through divide and conquer. The downfall of a system that was built of individualism is that it does not recognize the power of unity. It does not hold sacred the bonds of ancestry, or observe the connection to land, knowledge and guidance.  \\n\\nWe are who we are because of who our ancestors were and will continue to be, and grow, because of who our mentors are. That is the crux of this conference. Every speaker we are privileged to host over the next two days is unapologetically a part of this, and all others, movement of solidarity. Freedom as a constant struggle is their life's work and through their guidance and support, ours as the next generation. \\n \\n\\n“If justice is indivisible, it follows that our struggles against injustice must be united.” - Dr. Angela Davis \\n\\n \\nWe have invited speakers and educators representing government, academia, activism, education, health, and urbanism who, with decades of collective knowledge and experience within their respective fields, are eager to share their stories and lessons. We hope that participants of Xchanges: Borders of Wellness will take inspiration from our notable speakers and educators and apply their teachings to their own lives in order to address racial discrimination, specifically in healthcare, and help create a more equitable and inclusive world for racialized folks.\\n\\nGraphics for Event: The graphics for XChanges, across all social media, were created by Kyera Mapp. Kyera can be contacted at @kyeramapp. Their instagram includes a linktree which shows their portfolio and other amazing projects they are currently working on.
