{ "name":"May 2025 STEM Capacity Building Circle", "description": "https://ticketfi.com/event/6303/may-2025-stem-capacity-building-circle\n\n\"Background Information\\n\\nSince 2022, the Faculty of Mathematics Equity Office has hosted small, in-person, circle conversations (approximately) every month to help faculty and staff support and advance our Equity and Inclusive Communities Principles. The location\\/link will be sent out to registrants a day before the circle discussion. All in-person circles will be held in one of the math buildings.\\n\\nParticipation in these Capacity Building Circles have traditionally been limited to employees in the Faculty of Mathematics, to create a brave space for discussion amongst individuals with similar academic backgrounds and experiences. Starting in 2025, the circles were rebranded as STEM Capacity Building Circles and registration opened to employees in the Faculties of Engineering and Science as well.\\n\\nThese circle discussions will coninue to support the Faculty of Mathematics' Equity and Inclusive Communities Principles by championing  best practices and supporting the efforts of individuals who implement and promote such practices. Expanding registration to colleagues in the Faculties of Engineering and Science  reflects growing recognition of some of the common backgrounds and experiences shared when applying the principles in STEM fields.\\n \\n\\nTopic\\n\\nOpen Circle: Invitation to Share What Questions or Challenges We Are Encountering\\n\\nFor the first month of the term, we will host an "Open Circle" where there will be no set topic. Instead, we invite registrants to share any questions or challenges they are currently facing. This format provides an opportunity to discuss anything on your mind, whether related to coursework, research, or personal development. We look forward to hearing from you and engaging in meaningful conversations to support one another.\\n\\n* There will be no assigned readings for this circle. \\n\\n\\n\\n\\nFormat\\nThere will be one circle conversation held this month. Depending on what format people prefer, we will either host the meeting in-person or virtually (hosting a hybrid conversation may be considered in the future).\\n\\nVirtual converations are held via Zoom. In-person discussions take place in a large circle, with participants facing one another.  Each session is limited to a maximum of ten (10) participants (including special guests, if applicable).\\n\\nAll circles are open to both faculty and staff in the Faculties of Mathematics, Engineering, and Science.\\n\\nRooms for in-person circles are selected for the conversations to ensure people do not feel crowded.\\n\\nThe session is 1.5 hours in length.\\n\\nSpecial Guests\\n\\nNote: Based on feedback from previous participants, invitations are sometimes extended to folks outside the Faculties of Mathematics, Engineering, and Science who may have specific expertise (lived or other) related to the topic of conversation. Special Guests will be participating in the circle alongside others - not "leading" the discussions. They are happy to add their perspectives and experience to the circle and are excited to hear the perspectives and experiences of other participants as well!\\n\\nThere are no special guests joining us in May.\\n\\nImportant Notes: \\n\\n\\n\\tWith the exception of any special guests noted, these conversations are limited to Faculty of Mathematics , Engineering, and Science faculty and staff . Offerings for students and\\/or other Faculties  are anticipated to be offered at a later date.\\n\\tTickets for each session are only available until 1 business day before the scheduled discussion (to allow time to send the links along to participants).\\n\\tIf we do not have least four (4) registrants for a circle, the circle will be cancelled. Registrants will be invited to connect informally with the Mathematics Equity Officer to discuss the topic during the same time slot if they wish.\\n\\n\"", "startDate":"2025-05-28", "endDate":"2025-05-28", "startTime":"12:00", "endTime":"13:30", "location":"200 University Ave W Waterloo ON N2L 3G1 Canada", "label":"Add to Calendar", "options":[ "Apple", "Google", "iCal", "Microsoft365", "Outlook.com", "Yahoo" ], "timeZone":"US/Eastern", "trigger":"click", "inline":true, "listStyle":"modal", "iCalFileName":"invite.ics" }
